FORMULA ONE (F1) History

The Formula One series has its roots in the European Grand Prix Motor Racing of the 1920's and 1930's.

                                    The first European Grand Prix was the 1923 Italian Grand Prix held at Monza and the last one was the 1977 British Grand Prix.


 

World Driver's Championship was not formalised until 1947. A championship for constructors followed in 1958.

The first world championship race was held at Silverstone, United Kingdom in 1950. National championships existed in South Africa and the UK in the 1960's and 1970's

The sport's title, Formula One, indicates it is intended to be the most advanced and most competitive of the FIA's racing formulae. The FIA was founded in 1904 in Paris.The FIA comprises 213 national motoring organizations from 125 countries, representing more than 200 million drivers.
