JACQUES VILLENEUVE CART Indy Car World Series

In 1994, Craig Pollock's Forsythe-Green team took Jacques up into this series. In his first year, Villeneuve came second at that year's Indianapolis 500 and won his first race at Road America, the circuit where his uncle had become the first Canadian to win a CART race nine years earlier. Jacques finished the season in sixth position, 131 points behind champion Al Unser Jr, and also taking the Rookie of the Year award.

In 1995, Jacques won the first race on the streets of Miami. Along with the win in Miami came three other victories, the most notable being the Indianapolis 500. Despite a mid-race two lap penalty, Villeneuve came back to win the race by two seconds over Christain Fittipaldi.

Jacques performances, as well as his family name, brought him to the attention on Frank Williams of the Williams Grand Prix team. Williams signed him to his Formula One team for 1996. Jacques began testing the Williams F1 car in 1995 after the CART Indy Car  World Series ended.
