Ferrari's Jean Alesi celebrated his 31 st birthday by winning the 1995 CGP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve .. his first win in 91 Formula 1 starts. It had been a lucky win for jean Alesi because the race had been dominated by Michael Schumacher, who ended up in fifth position.
Schumacher led from the start. At the hairpin Hakkinen took out Herbert. In the same place on lap two Coulthard spun into the sandtrap.
Hill's car was not competitive and he dropped to third behind Alesi and then to fourth behind Berger.When Hill left with another gearbox hydraulic failure Schumacher had a half a minute advantage over Alesi who was a long way ahead of the two Jordans
With 11 laps to go Alesi inherited the lead when Schumacher pitted with electrical problems. Alesi's win at Montreal was voted the most popular race victory of the season by many, as it was the number 27 Ferrari .. once belonging to Gilles Villeneuve
